In 1753, Egbert Douwes and his wife Akke Thijsses open their grocery store "White Ox" in the city Joure in the Netherlands. This would become the the foundation for Douwe Egberts - best coffee from Holland. Egbert and Akke sell products for "the joys of daily life", which are especially coffee, tea and tobacco. To date, Douwe Egberts offers high quality premium coffee. Every year, people around the world enjoy over 70 billion cups of Douwe Egberts coffee. Most famous are the Senseo coffee pods.
